English-speaking countries or non-English-speaking countries: the advantage of knowing many languages!
Speakers of English have a lot of advantages when they travel, it is a very widely spoken language. As a result a lot of people never make an effort to learn the local language of the place that they are going. This is a shame because you will enjoy your trip so much more and get more out of it if you are able to speak the language, even just a little bit.
If the only language that you know there are advantages to taking your vacation in an English speaking country. You will find that it is much easier to do things like order dinner in a restaurant for example. It also tends to make the tourist sites more enjoyable. Most sites have some sort sign or tour that explains things to you, obviously this will do you little good if you don't speak the language. Travelling to English countries will also allow you to interact with the locals which a lot of people find to be an enjoyable part of the trip.
While there are a lot of advantages to sticking to English speaking countries there are also several disadvantages. The biggest of these is that there are not all that many English speaking countries. English may be the most dominant language in world but there are less than a dozen countries where it is the first language. Clearly this will limit your vacation options. If you want to really see the world you are going to have to go to places where English is not all the widely spoken.
One of the good things about being an English speaker is that it is by far the most widely spread language in the world. It may not be the first language in most countries but there are likely going to be people who speak it wherever you go. As the language of the business world, not to mention the language that most movies and television shows are made in it is a language that many people want to learn. There is a whole industry devoted to teaching it. As a result you will likely not only find people are able to at least communicate in English but who relish the opportunity to practice speaking it wherever you go.
While you can probably get by with just English if you have to there are advantages to learning other languages. Even if you never become fluent simply being able to communicate in the language of the place you are going will make things a lot easier. You will have to interact with a lot of people and many of them won't speak English. You will probably be able to find somebody who does speak English who can help you but having to rely on this can be a hassle. A basic understanding of the language will make things a lot easier.
